Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 - The radio scanner is as vital a tool of the journalism trade as a camera and notepad. The frequency guide below lists some of the frequencies used by agencies that operate within Nelson County.

Some newer radio scanners take advantage of CTCSS and DCS technology (known in the industry as"Private Line"), which reduces reception of radio signals not transmitted by the desired agency being monitored. The known CTCSS/DCS codes are shown in the table below. Consult your scanner manual for information on programming your radio to make use of these codes.
