Gazette
investigating groundshaking event felt at state golf course
Monday, Aug 11, 2008, 10:40 p.m. -- The Nelson County
Gazette is investigating what
has been best described as a seismic event felt Sunday around
noon by golfers at My Old Kentucky Home State Park. Those
who felt the disturbances said it felt as if the ground had
fallen down under their feet in a vertical type of movement.
The first event felt like a single, very intense bang below
the golf course' surface. The second event consisted of a
pair of hard vertical bangs coupled closely together. The
U.S. Geological Survey did not report anyseismic activity
in the area. Two small temblors -- both close to but outside
the state -- were recorded last week. The first was a 2.6
magnitude quake in West Tennessee near the town of Tiptonville.
The second was a 2.1 magnitude quake 5 miles north of Blytheville,
Ark. Did you feel the Earth move Sunday?
