ALENE THOMPSON MOOSER DIXON

Alene Thompson Mooser Dixon, 86, of Bardstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012.  She was born April 9, 1925, in Bardstown and spent a long career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance Company. She retired after 30 years of service and many accomplishments.  One of those accomplishments was to achieve the status of the first woman to be promoted to the management team at the company.  She loved to travel and visited many countries around the world.  She brought all her experiences together in a book she published, “Golden Pond, Reflections by The Lady Called Red.” She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Melvina Thompson of Bardstown; four sisters, Sister Margaret Thompson SCN, Edna Wolf, Rebecca Shawler, and Melvina Herron; and two brothers, Jack Thompson and Leland Thompson.

She is survived by her husband, Russell Dixon of Bardstown; and one sister, Jeanette (Jack) Claytor of Lebanon Junction.  She received constant care from niece Denise Cranmer.  She was also cared for by nieces Celeste, Cay and Connie Shawler.  She survived by many more loving nieces and nephews as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Barlow Funeral Home with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.  Deacon Joe Livers will officiate.

Visitation is 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Thursday at Barlow Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
