Hurst shutters corporation that launched Yurviews.com

Sunday, Feb. 28, 12:30 p.m. -- Local businessman Jack Hurst has dissolved the corporation that launched and operated his web site, Yurviews.com. The site, which has been mostly inactive the past year, has been a quiet thorn in the side for local politicians for a number of years.

Yurviews.com was a web site that was a collaboration between former Kentucky Standard publisher Steve Lowery and local businessman Jack Hurst about eight years ago. The pair formed a limited liability corporation, L & H Online LLC. On Feb. 2, Hurst filed a formal dissolution with the Kentucky Secretary of State's office. During this writer's discussions with Lowery at the time, the goal of Yurviews was to report news and comment editorially on issues facing the Nelson County community. As a journalist, Lowery told this writer he wanted a forum for his writing and an avenue to express his views. He also had hoped to use Yurviews as a place to advertise his photography studio.

The corporation Hurst and Lowery formed outlived their collaboration on the Web site.

In an interview at the time, Lowery told this writer that he and Hurst had a difference of opinion on content for the site. Lowery wanted to take a more journalistic approach, while Hurst favored a more relaxed blogging style. Within months, Lowery announced he was no longer associated with the content of the site.

Yurviews remains online, though updates have been few and far between in recent months. The site broke a number of stories before other local media reported them.

The dissolution of the corporation doesn't mean its time to mourn the loss of Yurviews. The site has gone dormant in the past, but always returned - to the chagrin of local officials. But with its focus being mostly on politics, it is unusual for the site to lay dormant during this, a very interesting election year.
