Sale of Bardstown's WBRT AM 1320 announced

PRESS RELEASE ON WBRT RADIO SALE

Keeping it local. Local radio station owners, Donna and Kenny Fogle, are retiring (again). After 7 years with the station and 3 ½ years as owners, the Fogles have announced the impending sale of WBRT radio. After careful consideration and much hand wrenching, they have negotiated the sale and transfer of the local business to a group with ties to local radio. According to Kenny, he and Donna both were concerned that the local theme they had worked hard for would continue and after talking to numerous interested people with local interests, they settled on a deal with three couples who share the Fogle's passion for local radio.

Three people in the group have a long history with local radio, Gerald Smith, a native of Lebanon, Kentucky cut his teeth in radio with his first radio job working with Bardstown's WBRT radio in the early 1960's, Bob Manning of Louisville has his own internet radio show and is the founder of USA Cares, a veterans support group, and Roth Stratton who started with his father's radio station at age 15 in Mayfield, Kentucky and most recently worked in Elizabethtown as a radio station manager. Stratton will assume the day to day management duties at WBRT. All three have had years of experience in both TV and radio broadcasting. Fogle says the group has indicated that very little will change for the average listener.

Kenny and Donna both have an extensive travel itinerary planned but both plan to keep active in the Nelson County community with the various organizations they are currently working with. Kenny said the travel plans were made to offset the long list of home improvement and maintenance jobs Donna has compiled during their years of not spending much time at their home. It has been a family venture with Kenny as the Operations Manager, Donna, the Business Manager and their son Matthew, who has been with the station for 11 years as the Program Director. Matthew recently moved away from Bardstown in pursuit of his music interests and has been traveling much more throughout the country playing and singing.

The Fogles said that no job they have had in their lives will ever compare to their years with WBRT radio and the interaction they have had with the people of Central Kentucky and their extended WBRT family of listeners and clients. During the Fogle years, WBRT has emphasized local news and sports, brought back Nelson County High School sports into WBRT's programming, added several new local talk shows, held two cooking shows, started and maintained for the past 6 years the Colgate Country Showdown national talent search, promoted many charitable and community based services among other shows and services. Kenny has also been the high school basketball play by play announcer for the past 7 years with Donna working with him keeping the scorebooks. Kenny also served for 2 years as the station manager for 102.7 FM when the station first arrived in Bardstown.

Kenny said they are all proud of what they have accomplished at WBRT. According to the Arbitron Company, the ratings system for radio, WBRT had around 4200 listeners when Fogle took over in 2003 and the latest ratings show over 6800 listeners, just in Nelson County. Both Donna and Kenny plan to be available as much as they can and will stay active with the new owners and managers, if they are needed.
