Magistrate candidate dies in motorcycle accident

By JIM BROOKS
Nelson County Gazette

Balltown area resident Kenny Dones died from injuries in a motorcycle wreck shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 30th.

According to reports on PLG-TV 13, a Loretto man driving a vehicle pulling a livestock trailer was turning into Bryan's store on New Haven Road. Dones' motorcyle struck the side of the vehicle during its turn.

Dones was one of three Democrats in the race for the District 1 magistrate's seat on Nelson Fiscal Court. Incumbent Maynard Wimsett will now face only Dale Clark in the Democratic primary on May 16th. The winner of the May primary will face Republican John Beery in the November General Election.

Dones' name will apparently remain on the May primary ballot. The the state-mandated deadline for printing the primary and absentee ballots -- 50 days before the primary -- was Monday, March 27th.

The funeral Mass for Kenny Dones will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 4 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in New Haven.
